When Sadness is at your door

I'm so pleased that @randomhousekids is the publisher of the American co-edition of my book. I've got many questions from people about this one. As you can see the title is “When Sadness is at your door” and the cover is also a little bit different. It also has a dust jacket, with a little bio and photo of me (made by my talented friend @signe_fotar , check out her profile for some beautiful landscape photography) . I don't think this is very uncommon, for books to change cover in different countries? The USA is a different market after all.I can assure you however, the insides of this book are exactly the same. For those that wonder and have asked me about it before. From what I gather, the book is well received in the USA and if you want you can read some of the reviews, of which I put some links on one page on my website (link in bio). Seeing them all together, which isn't even counting all those mentions on social media, is quite overwhelming and I can hardly believe I made this book that people write about. I'm just pretending I find this all very normal and try to go along with it... #evaeland @andersenpress #whensadnesscomestocall @randomhousekids #whensadnessisatyourdoor #picturebook #childrensbookillustration #childrensbooks #mentalhealthawareness #childrensmentalhealth #letstalkaboutsadness #smallactsofselfcare #consolationandcomfort #repost @randomhousekids・・・We have seen such an incredible response to this sweet picture book. We know that talking to your kids about feelings, especially sadness, is NOT easy. In this book, author and illustrator Eva Eland gives sadness a shape and a face, and encourages the reader to give it a name, all of which helps to demystify sadness and distinguish it from ourselves. Tristezza non mi fai paura!

We had to cancel our trip to the Children’s Book Fair in Bologna last minute. “Sometimes Disappointment arrives unexpectedly”. It’s a small consolation to know that the Italian edition of my book, published by #nordsudedizioni, has been spotted in the bookstore by my dear friends @artsofsong and @margaretsturton, who are hopefully eating lots of gelato on my behalf. Also, I know my work is in good hands with the wonderful people from @andersenpress who will be working very hard this week at the fair. I wish everyone at the fair a good time this week!

The Dutch translation of my book ‘Als Verdriet op bezoek komt’ is very special to me. As Dutch is my native language I translated it myself, together with the editor from Leopold, who understands the book very well. I grew up with many of the books published by Leopold, so you can imagine when I heard it would be published by them, I was over the moon.

This is a repost from @dekinderboekwinkel in Amsterdam. You should check out all their other Book Face Friday posts, they’re so much fun!

As promised I’ll share more co-editions. This is such a lovely image, I’m not even going to try and take a photo myself of the Turkish edition of the book, published by @marticocukkitaplari. Thanks so much, @azraandmom for this post! Go check out their account to see more adorable pictures of Azra reading the book.

Lately, I’ve been wondering about how in different cultures we might deal with emotions differently. Does anyone have any thoughts on that? I know it’s a tricky question because comparing cultures quickly leads to generalisations that are never nuanced enough, but it’s fascinating to me and I’d like to get a better understanding.

This is a translation from #WhenSadnessComesToCall, published by @andersenpress.

Lovely review from The Booksniffer

Whilst I’m still thinking of what to say about sadness and summoning up the courage to share my debut book with the world, Sadness is already going out and about and doing it’s thing. I was very happy to find this wonderful review from @thebooksniffer, among a lovely curated feed of great picture books. ‘When Sadness Comes to Call’ is coming out with @andersenpress on January 3d. I’ll soon be sharing some of my thoughts behind this book and some work in progress. #Repost @thebooksniffer with @get_repost・・・This though... Breaking my heart a tiny piece at a time #whensadnesscomestocall by @evaeland published by @andersenpress - a delecately told tale, dealing with feelings of sadness for the very young whilst providing subtle, thought provoking and comforting coping strategies for readers of all ages 10/10 #kidlit #mindfulness #illustration #bookdesign
